Alice in Wonderland is the first book I read to my newborn son. It was a bonding experience, and I wanted to use my artistic skills and create art that reflects my vision of the characters. As many know, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland written by a well-known physicist, Charles Dodgson, under the pen name Lewis Carroll. Many have interpreted the story with religious symbolism and mathematical concepts. It was a fun story to read to my newborn while breastfeeding him; it was my way of introducing him to the world of books and showing him my love of reading. The medium I used was India ink and oil pastels on paper. I chose these mediums to work with because they tie in well with the characters portrayed in the story. The oil pastels and inks don’t typically blend well but, somehow they work. Much like the characters in the story, the contrasting logic et al. at first doesn’t make sense, but, as you keep reading, somehow sparks the imagination.
